Guðný Margrét Bjarnadóttir

My name is Guðný Margrét Bjarnadóttir 46 years old from Eskfirðingur, married to Björgvin Antonsson and we have 3 children Eva Björk 24 years old, Tómas Atli 20 and Arnar Bjarki 19 years old.

I have worked as a teacher for over 20 years and, at the same time, as a ski coach, working in a community center and in youth and sports affairs in Fjarðabyggð This career platform has taught me a thing or two about what it takes for children and youth to thrive – and what society needs to contribute.

Strong school, sports and youth work contribute to the improved well-being of children and young people. In this work, they learn cooperation and resilience – qualities that they take into life as strong individuals. Children's participation in organized leisure activities ensures togetherness with peers and also has an important preventive value, strengthening children socially and personally.

We must support this work and enable everyone to participate – regardless of their financial situation or circumstances.

I want community centers to become a bigger part of the daily lives of children and young people in Fjarðabyggð – places where they meet, hang out and form connections. What I remember best from my years growing up in Eskifjörður is the Knellan community center, which was home to almost all the teenagers on the farm. There they studied together, played, danced and had fun – and a community was created there.

We need to recreate that strength and that warm platform for the next generation.

The future of children is the future of society.

It takes a whole village to raise a child. I believe in that saying wholeheartedly and will work hard in the local government to ensure that our children's future in Fjarðabyggð is guaranteed – in school, in sports, in leisure activities and in society as a whole.
