About me

Íris Katla My name is and I was born and raised in Laugardalur in Reykjavík. After high school I went to North Carolina in the United States where I received a sports scholarship to study at Queens University of Charlotte and played golf for the school team for 3 years. I soon found that my heart always sought home in Iceland and when I graduated with a BSc degree in Environmental Science in 2015 I came straight home.

Shortly after returning home, I met my husband Haraldur Mímir Bjarnason, who is originally from Norðfjörður. Ever since I first came here from the east, I have been impressed by the hard work and mentality of the Eastfjords, who have all welcomed me into their community. In the summer of 2025, we decided to move east with our two children, as we envisioned ourselves feeling comfortable in a quieter environment, but also saw an opportunity to fulfill a shared dream of building ourselves a house.

Here in Fjarðabyggð There are various opportunities that are not available in larger urban centers. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we often forget to see the good, but as an outsider, we often see things in a different light. I am running because I was encouraged to express my views and have an impact in that way. I am passionate about innovation and want to work to bring more "outsiders" to the east because there are plenty of opportunities, plenty of jobs, and I believe that here in Fjarðabyggð is better to live.
