Sports and youth work are not just leisure activities, they are the foundation for a strong society, better public health and a stronger future. We in Fjarðabyggð We have built up strong work in this field, but we intend to take the next step and put our full energy into greater development, support, and new solutions.
One of the biggest and most important projects ahead is a new sports hall in Eskifjörður. There were no plans to build a sports hall after the old building was closed, but we took it up with full force. Now the preliminary design is complete, the location has been determined and construction will begin as soon as this summer. This is an important investment in facilities for children, young people and all residents.
We also intend to strengthen the pillars of the sports movement itself. Volunteer work has become more demanding, so we intend to fund the position of an employee of the sports clubs. This person will work under the supervision of the clubs and support daily work, tournaments, financing and organization. This will ease the burden, promote professionalism and strengthen cooperation between clubs and the municipality.
We know that children and young people's participation in sports and leisure activities is expensive but extremely important. That's why we are planning to establish a travel fund in consultation with the business community. The goal is to reduce financial barriers and ensure that everyone can participate, regardless of their circumstances.
In youth affairs, we intend to significantly strengthen the activities of community centers with increased cooperation between local communities and more diverse events. Young people have called for more interaction and we intend to listen to that. By doing this, we will build stronger connections and more active participation.
We will take major steps in the development of the Oddsskarður ski area by placing the operation in an independent company in collaboration with stakeholders. With clearer responsibility and professional management, a better foundation will be created for the development of the area in the future.
Facilities matter. We will complete renovations to Fjarðabyggðarhöllinn this year with improved lighting, insulation and heating. This will make it more accessible and usable for all ages all year round.
Finally, we intend to strengthen prevention efforts for young people through targeted education in schools and collaboration with parents and the community. Strong prevention is the best investment we can make in the future.
The goal is clear: to create an environment where everyone can participate, grow and find their place. With strong infrastructure, support for clubs and increased cooperation, we intend to fully accelerate sports and youth affairs in Fjarðabyggð .
