Last summer I had the opportunity to get to know the facilities at Múlan well when I took a job at a government agency with an office in Neskaupstaður. There is a widespread desire to increase the number of jobs in rural areas, but to attract such opportunities to Fjarðabyggð, it is also necessary to ensure that good office facilities are available. By strengthening cooperation with entrepreneurs and investors to build comparable facilities in more selected towns, we create more opportunities and strengthen the region's economy in the long term. Such development also increases the likelihood that more public jobs will be located in the area.
The development and renovation of the old primary school in Eskifjörður has created new opportunities to promote knowledge work in the municipality. In collaboration with the university, the municipality and the community, it is planned to open a University of Iceland Research Centre in the building. Such development is very positive for the area, strengthens its knowledge environment and creates new jobs. It is also pleasing to see the research activities of the University of Iceland in Breiðdalsvík, which have already taken root.
