Coworking spaces and shared office facilities can have a significant impact on the development of the economy in rural areas. A good example of such a structure is the Múlinn co-working space in Neskaupstaður, where companies and institutions can rent work facilities in a shared and well-equipped working environment. The presence of such facilities in more of Fjarðabyggð's town centers increases the likelihood that companies and government agencies will see an advantage in locating jobs and operations there.

Last summer I had the opportunity to get to know the facilities at Múlan well when I took a job at a government agency with an office in Neskaupstaður. The facilities at Múlan are exemplary, with well-designed and spacious office space, good lighting and high-quality shared facilities. Such a working environment attracts companies and institutions to locate jobs there.

There is a widespread desire to increase the number of jobs in rural areas, but to attract such opportunities to Fjarðabyggð, it is also necessary to ensure that good office facilities are available. By strengthening cooperation with entrepreneurs and investors to build comparable facilities in more selected towns, we create more opportunities and strengthen the region's economy in the long term. Such development also increases the likelihood that more public jobs will be located in the area.

The development and renovation of the old primary school in Eskifjörður has created new opportunities to promote knowledge work in the municipality. In collaboration with the university, the municipality and the community, it is planned to open a University of Iceland Research Centre in the building. Such development is very positive for the area, strengthens its knowledge environment and creates new jobs. It is also pleasing to see the research activities of the University of Iceland in Breiðdalsvík, which have already taken root. These examples clearly show the opportunities that lie in building good working conditions and knowledge work in many areas. Fjarðabyggð .
